- New “Green Task Team” Forming 🤝 We are setting up a specific subgroup for those interested in gardening, greening, and decision-making for our local spaces. Goal: Instead of Southway just presenting a finished plan, they want residents to help make decisions (e.g., where to plant trees, what bulbs to order). Time commitment: It won’t be huge—mostly meeting around late summer to review judge feedback and plan for the next year. Action: If you enjoy gardening or want a say in how the green spaces look, keep an eye out for the sign-up!.
- Benches & Trees 🌳🪑 Benches: Good news—funding has been secured for new seating!. Because it’s hard to find spots where everyone agrees, they are looking into “perching seats” (leaning/fold-down seats) potentially near the Floyd/Mottram Avenue junction. Trees: We are experimenting with a new tree type near Fi’s house; if it flourishes, we might plant more along Floyd Avenue.
- Dates for your Diary 📅 Winter Tree Walk: Saturday, 7th February (10:00 – 12:30). Just turn up!. Winter Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop: Saturday, 21st February. Spaces are limited, so booking will be required.
- Wildlife & Tech 🦇📱 Smart Recording: We discussed using low-power sensors to monitor things like soil moisture or wildlife activity. iNaturalist: There is a project set up on the iNaturalist app to record wildlife on the Green Flag site—everyone is encouraged to get involved in logging what they see.
